Plan Your Cruise Vacation

There are people who have gone on cruises and prefer this as the only type of vacation they will take and if they have the means, they cruise several times a year. If this is your first cruise, there are several steps you need to take when planning your cruise vacation.

The first step is to decide on a destination. If you like sunshine, you might want consider a cruise to the Caribbean Islands or Hawaii or other islands in the South Pacific. You can find some great waikoloa hotels if you plan on getting out of the usually cramped quarters of a cruise. If you want to see glaciers and other natural wonders, you may want to consider a cruise to Alaska.

After you have decided on where you want to go, you need to determine how many days you want to cruise. Some cruise lines offer three-day and/or seven day cruises. There are cruises that extend a longer period of time such as a cruise to Europe or around the world.

Look at the amenities that are being offered. These vary by ship as well as cruise lines. Most will feature a swimming pool, gym, dining options, and entertainment.

Next, you want to look at the staterooms. Options include inside rooms without portholes, outside rooms with portholes, suites, and butler-serviced suites. The price of your trip will depend on the stateroom and the deck you select. If you become a frequent cruiser on a particular cruise line, you may get upgrades each time you cruise.

Now that you know what amenities you are looking for, where you want to go, and the type of stateroom you want, you should select your ship. This is not an easy task. It will require some research on your part. Some of the cruise lines have as many as twenty ships. A number of them have specific themes which you should consider before deciding.

After you have selected your ship, you should book your cruise. There are high season and low season cruise times. You can get a better deal during the low season. If you book several months in advance, some cruise lines offer a discount. You may also find some deals if you find a cruise that is not fully booked within a week or two of sailing.

Before you book your cruise, you should find out what excursions are offered at the ports where you will dock. You should book these at the same time you book your cruise because the more popular excursions get booked quickly.

If this is your first cruise, you may want to work with a travel agent. They can help you to find the best deals.
